When in California...hit the beach! Here's a selection of the best beaches you can find in Los Angeles area.

 
Venice was founded in 1905 as a seaside resort town. It was an independent city until 1926, when it merged with Los Angeles. Today, Venice is known for its canals, beaches and circus-like Ocean Front Walk, a two-and-a-half-mile pedestrian-only promenade that features performers, fortune-tellers, artists, and vendors.

Laguna Beach is a seaside resort city located in southern Orange County, California. It is known for its extensive artist community, seaside village atmosphere, beautiful beaches, and luxury resort hotels. Many creative, bohemian, and wealthy people have made Laguna Beach their home and have added to the local culture.

Nicknamed "the 'Bu" by surfers and locals, Malibu is famous for its warm, sandy beaches, and for being the home of many Hollywood movie stars. Malibu Surfrider Beach, north of the pier, is the perfect beach to ride waves in Los Angeles area, especially for beginners.

Manhattan Beach is one of the three beach cities in South Bay. Its beautiful pier, less commercialised than the Venice Beach or Santa Monica piers, is the perfect spot for fishing, dining and shopping, as well as surfing with locals.

Huntington State Beach is a protected beach in Southern California. The 121-acre park was established in 1942. Huntington Beach іs the site оf the world surfing championships, held іn the summer every year. The city іs often referred tо аs "Surf City" becаuse оf thіs high profile event, іts history аnd culture оf surfing. Dog Beach іs аlsо another popular surf spot. Thіs segment оf Huntington Beach obtains these names becаuse dogs аre allowed around the cliff area.

Abalone Cove Beach is actually two beaches in one place: Abalone Cove and Sacred Cove. Its location on the Palos Verdes peninsula gives it some of the best views of Catalina Island. The cliffs are perfect to spot sea creatures and enjoy scenic sunsets.

Topanga has long been a getaway for artists and musicians, and it still retains a distinct bohemian flavour. Located in a canyon in a national park, its sunny, sandy beach is also in the vicinity of the famous Rosenthal Winery.

Dockweiler State Beach is a beach in Los Angeles with 3.75 miles (6.04 km) of shoreline and a hang gliding training area. With gentle breezes and a broad, sandy landing zone, Dockweiler was a major testing ground for hang gliding pioneers in the 1960s. The beach also has volleyball courts and it's the quintessential place to work out in LA area.

Santa Monica grew into an urban, eclectic, and prosperous beach city in the past decades. The Santa Monica Looff Hippodrome (carousel) is a National Historic Landmark. It sits on the Santa Monica Pier, which was built in 1909!
