Sanur is a small town on the east side of Bali. The town is due east of Kuta and despite the abundance of restaurants and accommodation, it has a a quieter and more relaxed feel to it.
Sanur is a 20 minute taxi ride from the airport, or 10-15 minutes from Denpasar. There are plenty of metered taxis and offers of transport all over the island to get you to Sanur.
Jl. Danau Tambilingan, the main street for shopping, has a number of Car rental places, as well as bicycle rentals and hundreds of metered taxis patrol the streets looking for passengers.
As well as shopping an eating, there are plenty of photo opportunities to walk along the 5km path at the beach. The local night markets are a sensory delight, with plenty of food options.
For the active, you could try one (or more) of the many watersports on offer down n Sanur Beach. Try windsurfing, wakeboarding, surfing or hang gliding. For those less active, you can hire a Banana Boat and hit the calm waters.
There are stacks of shops along Jl. Danau Tambilingan and the side streets. Try also the beach front path (5km in length) for more shopping opportunities.
For local food try Night Market. It is about 2 km from hotel zone (Mercure, Hyatt), bemo costs 10.000 rps (June 2007), for walkers just follow the main street. As for hygiene, food is absolutely safe. You may be able to remember the local names nasi for rice and mie for noodles, but with the rest, it is easier just to show what you want to eat. Expect one serving for maximum 10.000 rps and the same price for large beer (local, but surprisingly good).
Nice experience is warung - a kind of 3-wheels cart with food, my favorite is soup bakso. Expect bill 5.000 rps. Sometimes locals bring you chairs frome their homes or shops, so you can enjoy your dinner directly on rush street sitting with locals on wooden chairs.
Don´t forget to drink lot´s of water buyed in bottles.
Sanur has a wide variety of accommodation to suit any style, ranging from beach front resorts to tiny bungalows tucked in between palm trees.
Sanur is a good jumping off point for the nearby island of Nusa Lembongan.
